Thermometer Calibration / Temperature Calibration

At PCS, we provide a wide range of ISO 17025 accredited calibration services for all types of thermometers and temperature control systems used in ovens, furnaces, kilns, freezers, and other temperature controlled applications. If you need you thermometers back quickly, contact us today as we continuously provide the fastest calibration turnaround times in the nation! Some of the major manufacturers of thermometers we calibrate include Fluke, Omega and Cole-Parmer.

Thermometer Calibration (Liquid In Glass, RTD, PRT)

To obtain the best possible data for Liquid in glass thermometer (LIG), RTD thermometer and PRT thermometer calibration we place the unit under test (UUT) thermometer along with our reference thermometer into a Hart Scientific high temperature oil bath, state-of-the-art Ametek Jofra dry block calibrator, or a dry ice bath. We then compare the reading of the test thermometer to our reference Ertco/Hart Platinum Resistance Thermometer which is accurate to 0.015°C.

This method of thermometer calibration known as “the comparison method” has been the gold standard for Liquid in Glass (LIG) thermometers for decades because it is the most accurate and reliable method of thermometer calibration. Fortunately, new dry block calibrator technology has expanded temperature ranges and stability. This advancement has made using this method for RTD and PRT thermometer calibration a viable reality. The benefits of using dry block calibrators are faster calibration times, improved thermometer calibration accuracy, and reduced cost to our customers. We typically use the comparison method to calibrate thermometers over temperatures ranging from -90° C to 660°C.

Digital Thermometer Calibration / Thermocouple Calibration

We typically perform digital thermometer calibration and thermocouple calibration using the latest Fluke electronic sourcing equipment to electronically simulate the input from a thermocouple probe. However, if you prefer a comparison method calibration, supply your thermometer to us with a probe, and we will use the Hart Scientific high temperature oil bath, dry blocks, and ice baths as described above. PCS can also provide a combination of both electronic simulation and comparison method calibration for your digital thermometers and thermocouples upon request. We typically calibrate digital thermometers over temperatures ranging from -250° C to 2316°C using electronic sourcing or -90° C to 660° C using direct comparison.

Infrared (IR) Thermometer Calibration

We perform Infrared (IR) thermometer calibration using a highly stable black body device and a secondary reference PRT thermometer. The black body is used as the temperature source due to its high emissivity of 95% and relatively small aperture at which the Infrared (IR) thermometer is targeted. We place the secondary reference PRT thermometer inside the cavity of the Black Body to be used as the temperature reference. This ensures the most accurate IR thermometer calibration possible. We can calibrate IR thermometers over temperatures ranging from 25° C to 500°C.

Thermo-Hygrometer / Chart Recorder Calibration

We conduct in-house Chart recorder and thermo-hygrometer calibration in our lab using our lab cooling and heating chambers. There, your device is compared to our reference standards at various temperatures and humidity levels. We can also calibrate these types of instruments at your facility using our Fluke electronic sourcing equipment for a multi-point calibration, or we can use a 1-point comparison with our reference standard depending on your application and instrument.

Autoclave Calibration

We can perform on site autoclave temperature calibration at your facility using new state-of-the-art Madge-Tech temperature data logging equipment which is accurate to (+/- 0.1°C). This new technology allows us to show you a complete temperature profile of your autoclave cycle within seconds. We perform these tests on-site or in-house up to 250°C.

Oven / Furnace / Freezer Calibration

PCS will use Madge-Tech temperature data logging equipment, an Ertco/Hart Platinum Resistance Thermometer, or a Fluke temperature measuring system (depending on the temperature range of your application) to provide the best calibration possible for your oven, furnace or freezer. We calibrate this equipment over temperatures ranging from -200° C to 1204°C.

Regardless of the methodology, our standard turnaround time is 48 hours — the best turnaround time among thermometer calibration companies in the industry.

On-Site And Off-Site Thermometer Instrument Calibration Services

Depending on the application, your schedule and location, PCS performs thermometer instrument calibration services either on-site at your premises or off-site in our lab. Some tests that involve calibrating small instruments or thermometers can be calibrated in our lab while calibration of large or permanently installed equipment must be performed on-site.

We can provide on-site calibration services to customers that reside in Tennessee, Virginia, Alabama or Kentucky. The following locations are examples of areas that we serve on a routine basis:

  • Knoxville, TN
  • Johnson City, TN
  • Nashville, TN
  • Cookeville, TN
  • Bristol, TN
  • Murfreesboro, TN
  • Kingsport, TN
  • Chattanooga, TN
  • Abingdon, VA
  • Huntsville, AL
  • Decatur, AL
  • Louisville, KY
  • Lexington, KY

Accreditation and Documentation

All calibrations are traceable to the SI through NIST, (National Institute of Standard and Technology) and include “long form” calibration certificates with as-found/as-left data. ISO 17025 accredited calibration is available upon request. We also offer a web based calibration interface, “e-certificates” that gives you access to electronic copies of your calibration certificates which can be viewed and printed at your convenience. Standard turnaround time is 48 hours.
ISO/IEC 17025: 2017 CERTIFICATE & SCOPE OF ACCREDITATION

The team at PCS is willing to work hard, when it matters most, to ensure our state crime laboratory system continues to meet stringent ISO accreditation requirements.
