Without the proper equipment, pin gage calibration is incredibly difficult, time consuming, and questionable in meeting industry standards. In order for pin gages to be useful, they need to be almost perfectly round at their specified dimension throughout their entire length. This means that in order to properly calibrate pin gages, several measurements should be taken by trained personnel with the use of a calibrated supermicrometer. At Precision Calibration Systems, we have the the expertise and equipment to provide ISO 17025 accredited pin gage calibration. To achieve the level of quality we value, we use a state-of-the-art Pratt & Whitney Universal Supermicrometer that is accurate to 10 micro-inches. We use this instrument to calibrate all of our customers’ hard gauges such as pin gages, plug gages, ring gages, and thread plug gages.

Pin Gauge Calibration Services:
PCS has the capability to calibrate all classes of Go, No-Go and Master cylindrical pin gauges, pluggauges and ring gauges, XX – ZZ. These gauges are very simple, but also very effective. With proper use, these precision tools can measure to a high degree of accuracy. Pin and plug gauge calibration is performed by mastering the Universal Supermicrometer with our high precision gage blocks and then measuring the outer diameter. Ring gauge calibration is performed by mastering the Universal Supermicrometer with our high precision master ring gages and then measuring the inner diameter with ruby tipped indicators at 0 degrees top-middle-bottom and 90 degrees top-middle-bottom positions.
Proper Care for Pin Gauge Sets
Like many precision measurement tools, pin gauges are very simple, but also very effective. With proper use and proper care, these precision tools can measure holes to a high degree of accuracy. The important words here are proper use and proper care! Pin gauges are so basic and seemingly inexpensive, they are very often abused and misused by following these few simple steps you can help to maintain your pin gauges and their extend their useful life.
- After use, remove all fingerprints with a lint free cloth and apply a small amount of lubricant to prevent rust. Fingerprints often have a PH level of oil that causes rust. Some people have particularly high levels of oil in their body and must take extra precaution to remove the fingerprints.
- Never force a pin or plug gauge in to a hole or force a gage or part through the hole of a ring gauge. Although this may seems obvious, in the rush to get things done, many pins become damaged for this reason due to “galling” which is when metal gets transferred from one part to another. It’s important to note that galling greatly decreases the accuracy of your gauge!
- Pin, plug and ring gauges should be calibrated once per year unless they are used excessively in which case the interval should be increased accordingly to ensure their accuracy.Taking proper care of your gauges by following these simple steps will help to maintain their calibration and extend their useful life.
