Infrared Thermometer Calibration
Infrared Thermometer Calibration
Infrared (IR) thermometers are used to measure temperatures of surfaces without making contact. Many IR thermometers are equipped with a laser sight that allows the user to “point and shoot” to get readings from safe distances. These instruments are often used when personnel need to spot-measure temperatures of piping, machinery, bearings, furnaces, engines, or chemical reactors.
Infrared thermometers are widely used and relatively easy to operate, however, calibrating them can be a challenge. In order to accurately calibrate these sensitive instruments, calibration should be carried out by trained technicians in a controlled environment. Some of the tools needed include a black body source, various holding fixtures and a reference PRT to verify the reference temperature of the black body.
Our Process
At PCS, we possess the proper procedures and state of the art equipment to provide our customers with ISO/IEC 17025 Accredited infrared thermometer calibration. When calibrating an IR thermometer, we use a custom holding fixture which is set at a fixed distance from a black body source. A PRT is inserted into the black body and a specified temperature is set. The infrared thermometer is then precisely pointed at the the black body aperture and activated to capture a reading. By comparing the reading of the reference PRT thermometer with the reading of the IR thermometer, we can accurately determine error and adust as necessary. This process is continued at selected temperatures along the range of the thermometer. Our thorough IR thermometer calibration produces accurate, audit-ready results you can trust!
