Infrared (IR) thermometers are used to measure temperatures of surfaces without making contact. Many IR thermometers are equipped with a laser sight that allows the user to “point and shoot” to get readings from safe distances. These instruments are often used when personnel need to spot-measure temperatures of piping, machinery, bearings, furnaces, engines, or chemical reactors.
Infrare thermometers are widely used and relatively easy to operate, however, calibrating them can be a challenge. In order to accurately calibrate these sensitive instruments, calibration should be carried out by trained technicians in a controlled environment. Some of the tools needed include a black body source, various holding fixtures and a reference PRT to verify the reference temperature of the black body.
At PCS, we have the resources and training to meet the challenges of IR thermometer calibration. We have your needs covered and our IR thermometer calibration services are highly valued by our customers. Benefit from our standard 48-hour turnaround times — the fastest turnaround time in the calibration industry.
At PCS, we possess the proper procedures and state of the art equipment to provide our customers with ISO 17025 Accredited infrared thermometer calibration. When calibrating an IR thermometer, we use a custom holding fixture which is set at a fixed distance from a black body source. A PRT is inserted into the black body and a specified temperature is set. The infrared thermometer is then precisely pointed at the the black body aperture and activated to capture a reading. By comparing the reading of the reference PRT thermometer with the reading of the IR thermometer, we can accurately determine error and adust as necessary. This process is continued at selected temperatures along the range of the thermometer. Our thorough IR thermometer calibration produces accurate results that you can trust!
While we serve customers nationwide through our fast turnaround laboratory located in Tennessee, we can perform IR thermometer calibration services on-site as well! Whether you have multiple tools at your shop, or have equipment that cannot be removed from your facility, our mobile lab brings the infrared thermometer calibration services to you! We offer convenient on-site calibration services to many locations in Tennessee, Virginia, Alabama, and Kentucky. Don’t risk using equipment that could be giving you inaccurate readings! If within our region of mobile service, we can provide on-site calibration service. Major cities frequently visited for calibration services include:

All calibrations are NIST, (National Institute of Standard and Technology) traceable and include “long form” calibration certificates with as-found/as-left data. ISO 17025 accredited infared thermometer calibration is available upon request. We also offer a web based calibration interface, “e-certificates” that gives you access to electronic copies of your calibration certificates which can be viewed and printed at your convenience. Standard turnaround time is 48 hours.
When it comes to providing IR thermometer calibration services, we do whatever we can to provide our customers with the best value in the calibration industry. Our standard pricing is as follows:
